Happy World Cardmaking Day friends,

I hope you spend some much needed “me” time today to make a card or two or three and then send them off to someone.  Everyone loves Happy Mail!  I chose the Walk in the Woods stamp set found in the Annual Catalog based on the sentiments in the set.  Today’s card features the “Everything will be okay” sentiment and the mushroom image.  This is an easy card to color with either Stampin Blends, Stampin Write Markers or watercolor with the Stampin Up Watercolor Pencils or use your ink pads to watercolor the images. Keep reading and I’ll tell you how I use my ink pad to make a DIY watercolor palette.

Using Your Stampin Up!! Dye Ink Pads to Watercolor

There’s a few ways to watercolor your stamped images.. You could also use your water-based dye ink pad refills also.  The fastest and easiest way for me is to just take one of my acrylic stamping blocks and tap into my ink pad.  See the photo below.  Instead of using your acrylic stamp block you can also use any slick, nonporous surface, for example, a plate, an acetate sheet, a laminated sheet of paper, a piece of glass.  (You get the concept.)

Then use the Water Painter or brush of your choice to pick up the ink from your palette. Since the dye ink pads are water-based it’s easy to clean your surface with your damp Stamp Shammy, a paper towel or just a quick rinse in the sink.  Super easy and fun!

Please remember to use a water-proof ink to stamp your images if you’re going to watercolor.  Use StaZon or the retired Stampin Up! Archival Basic Black ink pad to stamp your images.   Don’t use the Memento Tuxedo Black ink pad or any other water-based ink pad because the stamped images will bleed or run.  Sounds gory, but the point is your stamped images will be ruined.
